oil paintings on vintage wallpaper

In 2012, I came across hundreds of rolls of vintage wallpaper in a dusty dance hall in Thomas, West Virginia. The pattern rich wallpaper quickly became my new canvas.  Combining the intricacies of various creatures with the detailed wallpaper, I hope to incite a sense of tranquil curiosity in viewers. I enjoy the juxtaposition created when these seemingly disparate objects are paired together. This series is meant to make people slow down, notice the details of the creatures around us, and foster love for the wondrous natural world.

intimate scenes

Intimate Scenes is a brief view into the sanctuaries that human beings create for themselves.  The warm oil colors, focus on detail, and use of natural light induce a sense of comfort and moodiness in contrast to the sense of loneliness and isolation that is depicted by the solitary human forms (or lack thereof). The paintings provide a glimpse into the comforts that we create in our surroundings by offering up complete environments and moments inhabited.
